It seems like the regions that are visibly affected when we increase the number of bounces are really close to one another (e.g. in the lantern, and far away near the door). Is there anything we can do to take advantage of this locality? E.g. can we somehow notice that one region is getting a lot of hits on the eighth bounce, and add in some extra illumination there without actually needing to compute everything?
