Do we introduce the concept of radiance because of its advantage in ray tracing? If so, is there any other rendering techniques that don't make use of the concept of ray tracing?

I was a little confused by the difference between the physical interpretations of radiance and intensity. Intensity is energy per unit time per unit solid angle.
