Who can articulate about why it would be unnecessary to add more triangles to the center of this rod like shape?
It would make me happy if a pleasant person could discuss the notion of information as it relates to this slide and try to articulate some conditions under which some feature would be considered to add information or not within a particular context that the mesh would be used for.

I guess one piece of information we care about is the change in normal. If we add more triangles to the center of this rod, all the additional triangles will have a very similar normal and thus little change in normal between adjacent triangles.
