My intuition says that if we hypothetically could derive an implicit surface $I$ such that the mesh is supposed to be approximating $I$, then sampling theory and the Fast Fourier transform should be well defined in terms of the signal expressed as the distance of uniform linearly interpolated points on the mesh from the nearest point on the implicit surface.
