I didn't fully understand what this caveat entails. Does it mean that for any straight line in the left image, there exists another straight line in the right image such that the intersection of each respective line with each respective blue region are equal (up to application of f)?

I can see how this would be very useful in animation because these linear function allows one to transform the shape while preserving its attributes, and not distorting it.
