I think fundamentally Bernstein basis is just like linear interpolation where you break down the whole into several pieces of weight and let different components take over each piece and decide how much they should affect the outcome, which I think also gives intuition into why you get 1 if you sum over B_k^n from 0 to n and use the binomial theorem.
