If it's very reasonable in practice then does that mean that in the vast majority of cases variance is bounded?

What if we don't have axis-aligned boxes? Do we just approximate them to be axis-aligned?

What is a common example of a reasonable use-case with unbounded variation? I assume most functions that behaves poorly at 0 would not have bounded variation?
