Why do we care less about interpolation than the other two properties in animation?

Is it true that we can almost always make up for the "interpolation" aspect by putting in more efforts, e.g. frames?

Is there some other type of "spline-like" object that we can use that can give us all three of the functions that we want, or is it theoretically impossible (or is it too complex to actually use)?

Is there a quantitative way to measure how "natural" a spline animation is?

Which spline interpolation is considered the most generally applicable or is utilized in the largest range of problems and why? I understand that each has their own use cases and applications in which they respectively perform the best, but still curious.
