I think sphere on the right is focusing the light from above to the spot beneath it, and then the floor is bouncing the light from the sphere. Is that why it looks like there's an area light below the sphere?

the left sphere's reflection of the grey wall on its right side mixes too much with the background is that a problem?

The bright spot is a caustic, much like the bright point of light you'd get from holding a magnifying glass under the sun.
