Not sure if this is the same concept or not, but using the similar triangles to convert from a 3D coordinate to a 2d coordinate reminds me of converting from homogenous coordinates to heterogenous coordinates by dividing by the "last" coordinate.

Honestly, this was perhaps the most eye-opening part of the lecture to me! I hadn't really considered how it was that objects farther away appeared smaller to us (at least mathematically). I always assumed it was just a visual illusion, just how the moons appear much larger on the horizon. When we have these seemingly larger objects close to us, it makes the farther objects look smaller. But this is great!
