Is there a way to downsample a signal such that no information is lost? (I'm not sure if this is similar but a bunch of files can be zipped together and reopened with no loss in data)

@raymondx Nice question. There are certainly lossless schemes for mesh compression (beyond just zipping the mesh file!); here's a nice survey. I guess progressive meshes could be viewed as a sort of "lossless downsampling," or rather, a way to transition between different levels of simplification, including the original high-fidelity mesh.
