I didn't quite catch what this slide is saying happens with old CRT displays in the lecture video..could I get an explanation of why it gets darker again?

For some analog devices like CRT, when a "pixel", which internally in the computer is stored as a digital value, is sent to the device, the device might itself apply some non-linear function to be able to generate the "light" that we perceive. You have to take this into account and thus store a modified value of the pixel such that when its output by the device it has the desired light intensity.

Does changing the brightness of my computer screen just change gamma? Or does gamma have a nonlinear effect on the perceived brightness as you move it around?
