How are these goniometric models measured?

There are potentially several ways to capture these types of measurements, but the standard approach involves a camera gantry (e.g., robotic arm) that rotates the camera around an object. See the MPI project page here for more details.

Next class, we will talk about reflectance functions (bidirectional distribution reflectance functions, or BRDFs) in more detail. Measuring BRDFs uses similar contraptions that spins cameras and lights around objects. Check out this work by Wenzel Jakob et al. for videos and more details.

@Qwerty These are polar plots that encode the intensity of light as a function of viewing angle.

I think we can interpret it as if we sample a light direction on a light source. The diagrams represent the probability of emitted light of a specific direction?
