I'm not sure I understand the significance of the coloring on the image(white circle on blue circle?) It looks like it denotes 3 dimensions, but I thought we were visualizing 2D "curl"

Something appears to have gone wrong in the process of uploading slides to the website. These two circles are supposed to be gradients that gradually blend into one another, and indicate the magnitude of the curl operator. It is supposed to look like this:
