What is the actual numerical relationship between det(A) and the change in volume?
matticus99
It's multiplicative. If you take the unit cube and apply A to it, the new volume is equal to det(A). The same thing applies to 3-d solids in general, I believe.

Exactly! And this change in volume does apply to general 3D volumes as well.
