Could you be more specific on what exactly happened between step 3 and step 4?

@cche This illustration shows what happens when repeating the downsample -> upsample operation an arbitrary number of times. After every downsample -> upsample operation, the mesh smooths out a bit (e.g., the horns of Keenan's cow lose high-frequency detail). And repeating this over and over again, a lot of the features are lost. This is because the process of going from a high-dimensional mesh to a low-dimensional mesh is a lossy operation.
